Colorist art, commonly referred to as a color guide, is a photocopy
of the original art that is then hand-colored by the colorist.
This guide is then used for the computerized color seperations.
Just like their original art counterpart, colorist art is a
unique one-of-a-kind item. The dimensions for colorist art can
vary in size. The vast majority of newer pieces measure 8.5"
X 11", while some of the older ones may be only 7"
X 10" or so. Some pieces will have color "codes"
written on them to depict the actual color used for that part
of the page. Others will either not have the codes on them or
they will be on a separate overlay.
Colorist art was not treated with much "respect"
over the years and so the condition tends to vary. Many pieces
can have staple holes in the upper corner where they were attached
as complete stories at one time. Some of the older pieces can
have corners torn off, although most of the time it does not
touch the artwork. Colorist art is becoming more and more popular
as the majority of comics are being colored on computer these
days. This means there will no longer be "hand-colored"
pieces, of many of the newer issues, to collect.
I have listed the items by title, issue, page, penciller &
inker, colorist, price and special notes. I have made note of
splash pages and character appearances at times, but this is
in no way complete. There are plenty of nice appearances or
splashes that are not mentioned. The page number listed refers
to the "story page" in that issue and not the "line-up
page". Ad pages are not considered when determining the
page number. In the absence of a scan, please feel free to include
a brief description to be sure that we are looking at the same
page. A few words from the first word balloon or a comment about
the art in the first panel should suffice.
When I have listed a group of pages, such as 1-17, that is
the complete story for that issue. It would not necessarily
include any back-up stories that would have appeared. Likewise,
a listing of page 1-6 would include just the back-up story or
the character story that is mentioned.
Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions.
Thank you.
